hamburgers-pottery-dark-brown-loop-pattern-jug
Hamburger’s Pottery Dark Brown Loop Pattern Jug

A continuous pale looping pattern traces the dark body of this narrow-necked Hamburger’s Pottery jug.

A small ceramic jug with a tapered body, tall narrow neck, pouring lip and loop handle. The dark brown glaze is decorated with a continuous looping design in speckled cream and tan.The retained gold label reads Hamburger’s Pottery, Grahamstown. Made in South Africa. The pale pattern loops down the tapered body beneath a tall neck and small pouring lip. Its restrained decoration differs from the larger floral motifs on related bud vases. The handle adds a clear side profile, making this a useful comparison piece for collectors studying the relationship between painted pattern and vessel shape. For comparison, the Hamburger Potteries 261 Blue Floral Jug provides a related example in the store.
