Description
Blue iridescent carnival glass from Fenton's earliest production period is among the most prized in the American carnival glass market, and this Little Flowers berry bowl, with its scalloped rim, faceted exterior, and richly shifting blue-gold iridescence, is a fine example of the form at its most luminous.
Made by the Fenton Art Glass Company of Williamstown, West Virginia, circa 1910 to 1911, this berry bowl features a scalloped rim, faceted exterior panels, and the raised Little Flowers pattern to the interior. The Little Flowers pattern, with its delicate pressed floral motifs, is one of Fenton's more refined interior designs, and the combination of the pattern with the deep blue iridescence, which shifts between blue, purple, and gold depending on the light, produces a piece of exceptional visual quality. Fenton blue iridescent pieces from this early period are consistently sought after by serious carnival glass collectors, and the berry bowl form, with its generous proportions and scalloped rim, is one of the most satisfying of the available shapes.
