Description

An English ceramic side plate by Alfred Meakin, decorated in the traditional Old Willow pattern with the familiar landscape of pagodas, a bridge, trees, boats, and birds in cobalt blue on a white ground. The plate is a well-proportioned example of the Willow pattern in vintage English tableware, and its classic decoration and modest scale make it equally suited to display and everyday use.

Alfred Meakin was a Staffordshire pottery established in Tunstall in 1875, producing a wide range of transferware tableware for the domestic and export markets. The printed backstamp reads "Old Willow", "Alfred Meakin", and "England", accompanied by a cottage device, confirming the maker, pattern, and English origin.

  • Maker: Alfred Meakin, England
  • Pattern: Old Willow
  • Dimensions: 18 cm (diameter)
  • Condition: Very Good
  • Features: Cobalt-blue transfer-printed Old Willow landscape, cottage device backstamp

A charming vintage addition to a blue-and-white tableware collection. Pairs naturally with the Blue Willow collection and the wider Blues and Whites collection.
