Description
At 11.5 cm tall and 12 cm wide, this Belleek basket weave creamer with its green shamrock decoration and soft cream lustre finish has the delicate, feather-light quality that defines Belleek porcelain at its most characteristic, the basket weave moulding and shamrock motifs combining to produce a piece that is as distinctly Irish in character as it is refined in execution.
Made at the Belleek Pottery in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, and marked with the Second Mark, which dates the piece to the 20th century, this creamer is shaped with the house's signature basket weave moulding and decorated with green shamrock motifs in the soft cream lustre that defines Belleek at its most characteristic. The Belleek Pottery, founded in 1857, has been producing its distinctive basket weave wares since the 1860s, and the creamer, with its pouring spout and handle, is one of the most practical and widely used forms in the Belleek range, suited to use at the tea table as well as display in a cabinet. The green shamrock decoration, applied with the delicacy and precision that characterise Belleek's decorative work, gives the piece a specifically Irish identity that connects it to the Belleek tradition of celebrating Irish natural heritage. The piece is in very good condition throughout.
