Description

Court procession scenes are among the most narrative and visually complex subjects in the Chinese export famille rose tradition. This plate presents the subject with figures, attendants, a horse, architectural detail and a floral scroll border in pink, green, yellow and blue tones, creating a surface that rewards close inspection and displays well as a decorative wall piece.

The reverse carries a four-character Qianlong Nian Zhi style mark, which should be understood as later decorative export wording rather than evidence of an 18th century Qianlong period object. The decoration is consistent with mid 20th century Hong Kong or Macau-style export porcelain, but without a specific origin stamp the safest catalogue wording remains Chinese export porcelain. Collectors of Chinese export famille rose figural and narrative ware will find the court procession subject a classic and displayable example of the mid-century export tradition.
