Description
Figural scenes with seated ladies and attendants were among the most sought-after subjects in the Chinese export famille rose tradition, and this plate presents the subject with the patterned clothing detail, lantern and ornamental border treatment characteristic of 1970s Hong Kong or Macau-style export porcelain produced for the international decorative market.
The reverse carries a probable red Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi style seal mark, which should be understood as later decorative export wording rather than evidence of an 18th century Qianlong period object. Without a specific origin stamp the safest catalogue wording remains Chinese export porcelain. Collectors of Chinese export famille rose figural ware will find the seated lady and attendants subject a classic and displayable example of the mid-century export tradition.
