Description
The Rose Medallion tradition is one of the most recognisable and collected styles in Chinese export porcelain, and this plate presents it in a form consistent with mid 20th century Hong Kong or Macau-style export production. Figural cartouches, floral panels, pink and green border decoration, bird-and-flower detail and gilt-toned outlining are arranged in the characteristic alternating panel format that defines the Rose Medallion style.
The reverse carries a four-character Qianlong Nian Zhi style mark, which should be understood as later decorative export wording rather than evidence of an 18th century Qianlong period object. Without a specific origin stamp the safest catalogue wording remains Chinese export porcelain. Collectors of Chinese export famille rose and Rose Medallion decorative ware will find this a well-decorated and displayable example of the mid-century export tradition.
