The turquoise glaze used here draws on a long tradition of Chinese monochrome and coloured glazes, with turquoise being associated with the Qing dynasty period and later export production. This example is modelled with characteristic raised scrollwork detail across the body and base, and retains its bold painted facial features. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or restoration noted.
