Description
An English ceramic oval serving bowl by Churchill, featuring a cream-coloured centre surrounded by an elaborate cobalt-blue border. The border incorporates stylised pagodas, floral motifs, scrollwork, and finely detailed geometric panels, drawing on the Oriental-inspired English transferware tradition to create a piece of considerable decorative presence. Measuring 15 cm (H) × 21 cm (W).
Churchill China, based in Stoke-on-Trent, is one of England's most enduring transferware manufacturers. The printed backstamp reads "Churchill", "Made in Staffordshire England", "Fine English Tableware", and "Microwave Dishwasher Safe", indicating relatively modern production. No pattern name appears on the visible backstamp, and the pattern is unconfirmed. The bowl is in very good condition throughout, with no chips or cracks.
