Description
An English ceramic covered butter dish by Churchill, decorated in the traditional Blue Willow pattern. The rectangular base and domed cover feature cobalt-blue pagodas, bridges, trees, and waterside landscapes, complemented by geometric border panels that give the piece a formal, well-composed appearance. The covered form makes it as practical as it is decorative. Measuring 6 cm (H) × 19.5 cm (W).
Churchill China, based in Stoke-on-Trent, is one of England's most enduring transferware manufacturers, and their Blue Willow range is among the most consistently produced versions of the pattern in modern English ceramics. The printed backstamp reads "Churchill", "England", "Willow", and "Dishwasher & Microwave Safe", indicating relatively modern production. The butter dish is in very good condition throughout, with no chips or cracks.
