Description

An English fine earthenware soup plate by Churchill, decorated in the traditional Blue Willow pattern with the classic landscape of pagodas, a bridge, trees, a boat, and birds in cobalt blue on a white ground, surrounded by detailed geometric and floral borders. The shallow bowl form is well suited to both use and display, and the well-printed Blue Willow decoration is consistent with Churchill's reputation for quality English transferware. Measuring 5 cm (H) × 22.5 cm (W).

Churchill China, based in Stoke-on-Trent, is one of England's most enduring transferware manufacturers, and their Blue Willow range is among the most consistently produced versions of the pattern in modern English ceramics. The printed backstamp reads "Churchill", "Made in Staffordshire", "Fine English Tableware", and "Microwave Dishwasher Safe", indicating relatively modern production. The plate is in very good condition throughout, with no chips or cracks.
