Description
A large English earthenware serving bowl by Churchill, decorated in the traditional Blue Willow pattern with the classic landscape of pagodas, a bridge, trees, a boat, and birds in cobalt blue on a white ground, surrounded by intricate geometric and floral borders. The broad, shallow form and generous size make this bowl a commanding centrepiece for a formal table setting or a striking display piece in its own right. Measuring 5 cm (H) × 29 cm (W).
Churchill China, based in Stoke-on-Trent, is one of England's most enduring transferware manufacturers, and their Blue Willow range is among the most consistently produced versions of the pattern in modern English ceramics. The printed backstamp reads "Churchill" and "Made in England", together with microwave- and dishwasher-safe wording, indicating relatively modern production. The bowl is in very good condition throughout, with no chips or cracks.
