At 25 cm in diameter, this EIT England Blue Willow ceramic dinner plate carries the full ornate Blue Willow landscape across the most prominent plate form in the service, the generous surface of the dinner plate giving the classic landscape of pagodas, bridges, willow trees, and birds the space to be rendered with the completeness and ornate detail that the EIT England version of the pattern is known for.

Made by EIT England, an English transferware manufacturer of the 20th century, this dinner plate is decorated with the Blue Willow pattern, one of the most enduringly popular and widely produced patterns in English transferware since its introduction in the late 18th century. The Blue Willow pattern, with its Chinese-inspired landscape of willow trees, pagodas, bridges, and birds, was developed by English potters in the 1780s as an interpretation of Chinese blue and white porcelain decoration, and it has been produced continuously by English potteries ever since, becoming one of the most widely recognised and collected patterns in the history of English ceramics. The EIT England version of the pattern, which is noted for the ornate quality of its transfer printing and the density of detail with which the landscape is rendered, gives the dinner plate a decorative richness that rewards examination at the table as well as on the wall or shelf. The piece is in very good condition throughout.
