Description
At 17 cm in diameter, this EIT England Blue Willow ceramic side plate carries the full ornate Blue Willow landscape in the compact form of the side plate, the miniaturised landscape of willow trees, pagodas, bridges, and birds rendered with the ornate quality of the EIT England transfer printing that makes this version of the pattern particularly pleasing at close range.
Made by EIT England, an English transferware manufacturer of the 20th century, this side plate is decorated with the Blue Willow pattern, one of the most enduringly popular and widely produced patterns in English transferware since its introduction in the late 18th century. The side plate, at 17 cm in diameter, is one of the most versatile forms in any table service, suited to use as a bread plate, a side dish, or a display piece on a dresser shelf, and the ornate quality of the EIT England version of the Blue Willow pattern, which renders the classic landscape with a density and richness of detail that distinguishes it from the more restrained versions of the pattern produced by other manufacturers, gives the plate a decorative quality that rewards close examination. The piece is in very good condition throughout.
