Description

Fenton's Sailboats pattern is one of the more charming pictorial designs in early American carnival glass, and this marigold ruffled bowl presents it with the warm orange amber iridescence and panelled moulded decoration that collectors seek. The scalloped rim, plain central well and sailboat and landscape scenes to the side panels give the piece a distinctive, narrative quality.

The boat and landscape panels support identification as Fenton Art Glass Company's Sailboats pattern, giving the piece a stronger maker and pattern attribution than a generic carnival-style pressed glass description. The date is given cautiously as early 20th century, circa 1915. The piece sits naturally alongside other Fenton carnival glass examples in the Carnival Glass collection.
