Description
Gilt scrolls, crosshatched motifs and fine radiating lines stand against the black glaze of this Ora jug. Its rounded body, angular handle and pedestal foot are balanced by a scalloped pouring lip and gilt edging around the rim and base.
The original label reads Flora Plateel Gouda Holland. Handwritten underside markings include 68, Dec: Ora, Flora, Gouda and Holland, recording the supplied maker, decoration and model identification. The jug originates in Gouda, Netherlands, and its production period is estimated as the 1950s to 1960s. No exact manufacturing year is confirmed. The surviving label adds another point of reference alongside the painted base markings, while the gold decoration draws attention to the curve of the body and its contrasting angular handle. Related pieces appear in the Gouda pottery collection.
