Description
Cheerful, graphic and distinctly English in character, this H&K Tunstall handled dish in the Tuliptime pattern is a delightful example of the Tunstall potteries' hand-painted decorative ware — the bold tulip motifs and angular handled form giving it a vintage presence that is immediately appealing.
H&K Tunstall was a Staffordshire pottery manufacturer based in Tunstall, one of the six towns of the Potteries district, producing a range of earthenware tableware and decorative pieces throughout the 20th century. The Tuliptime pattern, with its warm ochre ground and bold hand-painted tulip motifs in yellow, pink and green tones, reflects the cheerful, nature-inspired decorative sensibility that characterised much of the Tunstall output. The angular form and shaped side handles give the piece a distinctive vintage presence, and the glossy glaze and confident brushwork make it as appealing on a dresser as in a dedicated ceramics cabinet. This example is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or damage noted.
