Description

This Japanese commemorative plate carries a provenance that sets it apart from generic decorative ceramics. The reverse inscription identifies the design as Futakami Fantasy, written 二上幻想, and names Kenkichi Sugimoto, written 杉本健吉, a celebrated Japanese painter known for his expressive, calligraphic landscape style. The Kintetsu Real Estate corporate mark supports a post-1968 date, placing this plate firmly within the early 1970s Japanese corporate commemorative tradition.

The design features blue mountain forms, dark foreground detail and two red-brown figure motifs above the landscape, rendered in Sugimoto's characteristic expressive style. Kintetsu Real Estate issued commemorative plates of this type to mark significant corporate milestones, and pieces bearing named artist attributions are of particular interest to collectors of Japanese mid-century decorative ceramics and Sugimoto-related works. The combination of corporate provenance, named artist and landscape subject makes this a well-documented display piece.
