Description
A large South African glazed earthenware mantel vase by Lucia Ware. It features an elongated shallow bowl, sweeping upturned scroll terminals and a raised oval pedestal foot, finished in a glossy dark green glaze. Measuring 12 cm (height) × 32 cm (width). It is in very good condition, with light surface wear and no visible chips or cracks.
The raised foot, shallow open body and distinctive scroll-style ends correspond with documented Lucia Ware style 5803 mantel vases. No maker’s mark or catalogue number is visible on the recessed underside of this example.
The form closely matches documented Lucia Ware style 5803 examples produced by Boksburg East Potteries in South Africa. Because this individual vase is unmarked, the attribution is based on the matching moulded form rather than a maker’s mark.
