Description

Two large teardrop openings pierce the lower body of this turquoise-green ceramic vase, attributed to Lucia Ware. Sweeping supports join the raised ends to a stepped oval foot, while the elongated upper opening follows an undulating rim. Glossy glaze emphasises the contrast between the open spaces and curved surfaces.

The owner attributes this piece to Lucia Ware. Its South African origin and estimated mid-20th-century date depend on that attribution, rather than on a confirmed maker signature. If the attribution is correct, the piece belongs to the Lucia Ware range associated with Boksburg East Potteries. The exact production date remains unconfirmed. The base photograph shows a numerical marking supplied as 31/188, but no readable maker name. The Lucia Ware identification remains an owner-supplied attribution; the number alone does not confirm the maker. Related forms and makers appear in the South African Ceramics collection.
