Description

A green bird perches at one end of this arched Lucia Ware log planter, its pointed beak and textured wings rising above the planting opening. Green and brown glazes pick out the moulded bark and knots, with a small yellow-tipped projection at the opposite end.

Lucia Ware is the supplied maker identification for this South African ceramic piece, associated with Boksburg East Potteries. The supplied dating places it broadly in the mid 20th century, around 1945 and the 1950s, rather than establishing an exact year of manufacture. The front retains a Lucia Ware label. No model number is supplied, and none is added to the identification. Related forms and makers appear in the South African Ceramics collection.
