Description

Green glaze pools around the scales and ribbed fins of this Lucia Ware model 1806 angelfish plaque.

The unglazed reverse bears a faint impressed LUCIA 1806 mark, identifying the Lucia Ware range and model number. The supplied identification places manufacture at Boksburg East Potteries in South Africa. The flattened rounded body combines an open mouth with moulded eye, gill and side-fin details. Elongated upper and lower fins extend the silhouette beyond the ribbed tail. Variations between lighter and deeper green emphasise the recessed decoration. The fish subject provides a comparison with the maker's bird plaques through relief modelling and glazed colour rather than a shared animal motif. For comparison, the Lucia Ware 6003 Flying Ducks Wall Plaque and the Lucia Ware 9001 Flying Mallard Wall Plaque provide related examples of form, decoration or maker within the store.

  • Maker: Lucia Ware, Boksburg East Potteries, South Africa
