Description

A teardrop-shaped opening pierces the lower centre of this Lucia Ware vase, framed by smooth recessed moulding. The flattened body rises to an asymmetric rim, higher on one side, with an elongated opening above. Subtly mottled green glaze lightens along the edges of the sculptural form.

Lucia Ware is the supplied maker identification for this South African ceramic piece, associated with Boksburg East Potteries. The supplied dating places it broadly in the mid 20th century, around 1945 and the 1950s, rather than establishing an exact year of manufacture. The supplied identification records LUCIA model 2402. The base photographs show the underside and impressed identification. Related forms and makers appear in the South African Ceramics collection.
