Description

A tall neck and sweeping loop handle rise above the globular body of this Lucia Ware ewer. The elongated pouring lip extends the vertical form, while a low circular foot supports the rounded base. Glossy green glaze has a mottled appearance, particularly around the broad shoulders.

Lucia Ware is the supplied maker identification for this South African ceramic piece, associated with Boksburg East Potteries. The supplied dating places it broadly in the mid 20th century, around 1945 and the 1950s, rather than establishing an exact year of manufacture. The photographed base shows the LUCIA name and a model impression corresponding to the supplied 9905 identification. Related forms and makers appear in the South African Ceramics collection.
