Description

Two shaped open handles frame the undulating rim of this Lucia Ware footed bowl. Subtle vertical moulding draws the eye down its flared sides to the spreading oval pedestal. Finely mottled green glaze becomes darker around the handles and lower body, emphasising the moulded contours.

Lucia Ware is the supplied maker identification for this South African ceramic piece, associated with Boksburg East Potteries. The supplied dating places it broadly in the mid 20th century, around 1945 and the 1950s, rather than establishing an exact year of manufacture. The supplied identification records LUCIA model 2504. The base and its impression are photographed, although the marking is less distinct than the vessel's overall form. Related forms and makers appear in the South African Ceramics collection.
