Description

Few export porcelain plates carry their origin story as openly as this Macau piece. The Portuguese Fabricado em Macau stamp on the reverse confirms manufacture or decoration for export from Macao, placing this plate firmly within the mid to late 20th century tradition of Macau-decorated Chinese export porcelain produced for the international gift and decorative market.

The plate is decorated in famille rose style with dense floral panels, pink, green, yellow and blue enamel colours, gilt-toned outlining and a central butterfly motif among layered blossoms. The reverse also carries an apocryphal Qianlong-style reign mark, used here as decorative export wording rather than as evidence of an 18th century imperial Qianlong period object. Macau-marked export porcelain of this type is collected alongside Chinese export and Hong Kong factory wares as part of the broader mid-century Asian decorative export tradition.
