Description
The pierced rim is the detail that sets this Macau export plate apart from the standard famille rose decorative plates of the same period. Openwork piercing along the border was a labour-intensive decorative technique associated with higher-end export porcelain, and its presence here, combined with the confirmed Aomen Zhizao mark on the reverse, makes this a more refined example of mid to late 20th century Macau decorated Chinese export ware.
The plate is decorated in famille rose style with figural cartouches, floral panels, bird-and-flower detail, pink and green borders and a pierced rim. The red Aomen Zhizao mark translates as Made in Macau, confirming Macau manufacture or decoration for export. This should be catalogued as decorative export porcelain rather than as an antique imperial period object. Collectors of Macau export porcelain and Chinese famille rose decorative ware will find the pierced rim a distinguishing display feature.
