Description
A saddler and horse bring this De Zadelmaker plate a recognisable Dutch trade scene with added character.
The small ceramic plate is decorated in blue and white with a saddler beside a horse, enclosed by a floral border. Its front title reads De Zadelmaker, naming the trade. The reverse carries the crowned Oude Molen Fabriek B.V. crest with Delft and Holland inscriptions, so the marked maker and stated origin are identifiable even though the production date is not. At 1 cm high and 11.5 cm wide, this piece suits a shelf, cabinet or plate stand and keeps the scene at a scale that rewards close viewing. The horse, craft and title give it a subject distinct from the related trade plates, while the border ties it visually to that group. It is recorded in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks noted.
