Description

A green cloak, a black hat and a full display of theatrical masks held aloft — The Mask Seller is one of Leslie Harradine's most characterful and enduring Royal Doulton designs, a figure that rewards close inspection with its richly detailed costume and expressive modelling.

Leslie Harradine (1887-1965) was one of Royal Doulton's most prolific and celebrated modellers, responsible for a large proportion of the HN series figurines produced during the mid-20th century. The Mask Seller, HN2103, was introduced in 1953 and remained in production until 1995, a testament to its enduring popularity with collectors. The figure depicts a street vendor of theatrical masks, a subject with roots in the commedia dell'arte tradition and the decorative arts of 18th-century Europe. This example carries the Royal Doulton backstamp and HN2103 model number to the base, with COPR 1952 also noted. Condition is good, with no chips, cracks, or restoration noted.
