Description
Royal Stanley Ware's Jacobean range, with its deep cobalt ground and richly hand-painted grape and vine decoration, is one of the most distinctive English pottery patterns of the early 20th century, and this vase, at 22 cm tall, is a strong example of the range at its most characterful.
Made by Royal Stanley Ware of England, circa 1920s, this vase features a deep cobalt ground with hand-painted grape clusters, vine leaves, and warm autumnal accent detail in the Jacobean pattern. Royal Stanley Ware, produced by the Stanley China Company of Longton, Staffordshire, was known for its richly decorated earthenware in the Jacobean style, a pattern that drew on the dark, jewel-toned palette of 17th-century English decorative arts. The Jacobean grape motif, with its combination of deep cobalt, rich purple grape clusters, and green vine leaves, is the most celebrated of the range and the most actively collected today.
