Wood and Sons, founded in 1865, was one of the major Staffordshire transferware producers of the late 19th and 20th centuries, and its Woods Ware Willow range, with its clean, well-printed version of the classic Willow landscape, is among the most collectible of the many English manufacturers' versions of the pattern. The dinner plate, as the centrepiece of any table service, is the form in which the Willow pattern makes its strongest visual statement, and this example, in very good condition throughout, is a fine representative of the Wood and Sons Willow tradition.
