Description

This substantial Alfred Meakin serving bowl presents the maker's Old Willow pattern in cobalt blue on a white ceramic ground. The deep rounded form has two integrated side handles, while the interior and exterior carry additional Willow decoration that rewards close inspection from every angle.

Made in England by Alfred Meakin, the bowl carries a blue printed backstamp with a house device reading “Old Willow”, “Alfred Meakin” and “England”. This confirms the maker, pattern and country of manufacture. The Old Willow name was used by Alfred Meakin from approximately the 1930s onward, and the bowl is likely to date from that period, although an exact year is not confirmed. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or damage.
