Description
This Burleigh Ware Blue Willow side plate combines a traditional cobalt-blue landscape with a gently scalloped edge and narrow gilt rim. Pagodas, a bridge, trees, figures and flying birds sit within a detailed floral and geometric border, giving this 15 cm plate plenty of decorative character.
Made in England, the plate carries a blue printed backstamp featuring a decorative dragon device and the words “Burleigh Ware” and “Made in England”. Burleigh Ware was the trade name associated with Burgess & Leigh. The exact production date is not confirmed, although the backstamp, decoration and gilt-edged form are consistent with vintage Burleigh Ware from the early to mid-20th century. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or damage.
