Description
Cobalt-blue flowers stand against the mottled gilt ground of this Royal Doulton cream jug. Vertical fluting gives the body a measured rhythm, while the shaped lip and handle establish its place at the tea table. It is listed separately from a C1800 teacup with related decoration and can be displayed alongside other tea and coffee table pieces.
The supplied identification records a Royal Doulton England lion, crown and interlocking-D backstamp beneath the jug, together with a hand-applied number associated with C1800 decoration. This supports the maker and connects the design to the separately listed teacup, but does not turn the two listings into a single set. The original description associates the mark form with early twentieth-century production; no precise manufacture date is established by the available text. The contrast of floral cobalt and textured gilt makes the fluted body the focus of this piece. The current listing grades it Excellent and reports no chips or cracks. That is a supplied assessment rather than a physical confirmation that lip, handle and glaze are free of fine lines or restoration. For more context on the decoration and identification, see the Journal guide to collecting vintage ceramics. Compare the different decoration on the separately listed C1800 teacup.
