Description
A full floral centre and matching border make this marked Distel plate a strong blue and white display piece.
The 21 cm ceramic wall plate is decorated with a large central flower and a border of flowers and leaves. Two holes on the reverse allow it to be hung. Its backstamp includes a thistle emblem and the wording BLAUW DELFTS, Distel, HANDPAINTED and MADE IN HOLLAND. These marks identify the Distel name and state Holland as the origin; they do not provide a precise production date. The decoration fills the face with a continuous floral composition, so the centre and edge read together rather than as separate motifs. The blue and white palette connects it to Dutch hand-painted pottery traditions, while the base provides the firmer attribution evidence. It is recorded in excellent condition with no chips or cracks noted.
