Description

Glossy black glaze emphasises the pointed lip and elongated handle of this Drostdy Ware miniature ewer.

A miniature ceramic ewer finished in glossy black glaze, with an ovoid body, slender neck, pointed pouring lip, elongated loop handle and circular pedestal foot. Identified as Drostdy Ware from Grahamstown, South Africa. No maker’s mark is visible on the photographed base. The black glaze makes the narrow neck, long handle and pedestal foot especially clear in silhouette. The supplied identification assigns the piece to Drostdy Ware, although no maker’s mark is recorded on the photographed base. Its attribution is therefore retained as supplied information rather than described as confirmed by a visible stamp. For comparison, the Drostdy 249L Green Glazed Spouted Serving Bowl provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
