Description
A slender neck and elongated loop handle rise above the cream body of this Drostdy Ware miniature ewer.
A cream-glazed ceramic miniature ewer with an ovoid body, narrow neck, pointed pouring lip, elongated loop handle and circular pedestal foot. The underside retains a Grahamstown Potteries Limited label identifying it as Drostdy Ware, Grahamstown, South Africa. The small ovoid body sits on a circular pedestal, with an elongated handle balancing the extended pointed lip. Its pale glaze allows the outline to remain the main decorative feature. Comparison with the black-glazed version shows the same general form in a markedly different colour, without establishing that the two pieces share an exact production date. For comparison, the Drostdy 249L Green Glazed Spouted Serving Bowl provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
