Description
A ringed neck and low circular foot frame the rounded body of this dark cobalt blue Drostdy Ware vase.
A ceramic vase with a rounded bulbous body, short neck, gently flared rim and low circular foot. The glossy dark cobalt blue glaze has subtle tonal variation and horizontal moulded rings around the neck. The base is impressed Drostdy, identifying manufacture by Grahamstown Potteries in Grahamstown, South Africa. The short neck has horizontal rings beneath a gently flared mouth, with a low foot supporting the bulbous body. Subtle tonal variation appears within the deep blue glaze. The simple profile makes colour and proportions the main comparison points; the recorded Drostdy impression supports the maker identification but not an exact manufacturing year. For comparison, the Drostdy 249L Green Glazed Spouted Serving Bowl provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
