Description

The Butterfly and Berry pattern is one of Fenton's most intricate and most collected designs, and the claw-footed bowl form, with its raised feet and beaded rim, is the most dramatic of the shapes in which it was produced.

Made by the Fenton Art Glass Company of Williamstown, West Virginia, circa 1913 to 1917, this bowl features three raised claw feet, a beaded rim, and detailed butterfly, berry, and leaf decoration pressed across both the interior and exterior panels. The level of decorative detail in the Butterfly and Berry pattern is exceptional even by Fenton's standards, with the naturalistic butterfly and fruit motifs rendered with a precision that rewards close inspection. The luminous iridescent surface, consistent across the bowl, is characteristic of Fenton's early production period when the quality of the iridescent finish was at its peak.
