Description
Fine blue speckling and faceted sides distinguish this glossy Hamburger’s Pottery model 406 bowl.
A rounded ceramic bowl with faceted sides, a gently inward-curving rim and a glossy deep blue glaze with fine lighter blue speckling. The interior is finished in the same glaze. The underside bears the impressed Hamburger’s Pottery mark and number 406. Made in Grahamstown, South Africa. The deep blue interior continues the exterior colour, while the facets interrupt reflected light around the body. The gently inward-curving rim gives the bowl a contained profile. The recorded model number offers a useful reference for comparing this shape with the lower, rounder green model 407 bowl. For comparison, the Hamburger Potteries 261 Blue Floral Jug provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
