Description
A mottled tan flower stands out against the dark brown glaze of this ovoid Hamburger’s Pottery bud vase.
A small ceramic bud vase with an ovoid body, sloping shoulders and a short narrow neck. The dark brown glaze is decorated with a stylised flower in mottled tan and cream, with curved linear accents around the body.Hamburger’s Pottery, Grahamstown, South Africa. The short narrow neck rises directly from sloping shoulders, making the flower the centre of the design. Mottled tan and cream petals soften the dark ground, while curved accents continue around the body. Compared with the pale floral bud vase, this example offers the same decorative theme in a contrasting palette. For comparison, the Hamburger Potteries 261 Blue Floral Jug provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
