Description
A broad inward-curving rim frames the finely speckled green glaze of this Hamburger’s Pottery model 407 bowl.
A low, rounded ceramic bowl with gently curved sides and a broad, inward-curving rim. The glossy green glaze has fine speckling and covers both the exterior and interior. The underside is impressed with the Hamburger’s Pottery mark and number 407. Made in Grahamstown, South Africa. The low rounded body and broad rim give this bowl a different silhouette from the deeper faceted model 406. Green speckling continues into the interior, keeping the colour consistent across the open form. The recorded model number is a shape reference rather than evidence for a precise manufacturing year. For comparison, the Hamburger Potteries 407 Green Glazed Planter Bowl provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
