Description

Green carnival glass with a grape and vine motif is one of the most enduring combinations in the American pressed glass tradition, and this Imperial Glass tumbler is a well-preserved example of the form at its most characteristic.

Made by the Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio, in the early 1900s, this cylindrical tumbler features rich green glass with raised grape cluster detailing beneath a scalloped border, the whole surface finished with the lustrous iridescent coating that defines carnival glass. Imperial's grape patterns were produced in considerable variety across their early catalogue, and the green colourway, with its deep emerald tone and strong iridescent contrast, is among the more visually striking of the available colours. Tumblers of this type were originally produced as part of water sets and are now collected individually as standalone pieces.
