Description
Smoke carnival glass is one of the most visually complex colourways in the American carnival glass canon, and in the Morning Glory pattern, with its tall flared form and softly waved rim, this Imperial Glass vase is among the most luminous pieces of its type.
Made by the Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio, circa 1910, this vase features a tall flared form with a softly waved rim and deep smoke-toned iridescence that shifts through blue, green, gold, and violet depending on the angle and quality of light. The Morning Glory pattern is one of Imperial's most celebrated vase forms, and the smoke colourway is considerably rarer than the more common marigold or green examples. Imperial Glass was one of the founding producers of American carnival glass, and pieces from this early period, particularly in the rarer colourways, are consistently sought after by serious collectors.
