Description
Kalahari Pottery is one of the more characterful names in the South African studio ceramics tradition, and this hand-painted egg holder, with its soft mint glaze, terracotta lower band, and raised white zigzag and dot patterning, is a small object with a warmth and personality that is entirely characteristic of the maker's approach.
Made by Kalahari Pottery of South Africa, this egg holder features a rounded triangular form in a soft mint glaze with a terracotta lower band and raised white zigzag and dot patterning applied around the body. The combination of the mint and terracotta palette with the geometric patterning draws on the decorative vocabulary of southern African craft traditions, and the handmade quality of the piece, with its slight irregularities and the warmth of the hand-applied decoration, gives it a character that factory-produced ceramics cannot replicate. The Kalahari Pottery mark is present to the base.
