Description
Dark brown ribs break through the pale blue glaze of this Liebermann Pottery jug.
A ceramic jug with a rounded body, horizontal ribbing, a slightly flared rim, pouring lip and large curved handle. The glossy pale blue glaze reveals dark brown bands along the ribs, with a warm brown glazed interior and dark brown rim.Identified as Liebermann Pottery, South Africa. The large curved handle and small pouring lip identify the open form as a jug. Horizontal ribbing continues around the rounded body, and warm brown glaze lines the interior and rim. The blue-and-brown combination also provides a useful comparison with the ribbed planter, which has no handle or pouring lip. For comparison, the Hamburger Potteries 402 Speckled Green and Cobalt Planter provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
