Description

A small South African ceramic vase by Lucia Ware, designed with an organic curved body, rounded lower section and broad asymmetrical flared opening. It is finished in a deep green lustre-style glaze with subtle tonal and iridescent variation. Measuring 9 cm (height) × 8.5 cm (width). It is in very good condition, with light age-related surface and base marks and no visible chips or cracks.

The underside bears an impressed “Lucia” mark together with the mould or shape number “369”. This mark, combined with the distinctive sculptural form and green glaze, identifies the vase as Lucia Ware.

The maker is confirmed by the impressed mark as Lucia Ware, produced by Boksburg East Potteries, and the origin is confirmed as South Africa. It is considered a mid 20th century piece, consistent with Lucia Ware production during the 1950s and 1960s.
