Description
A raised floral band circles the mottled green body of this Lucia Ware model 1563 vase.
The underside bears the impressed LUCIA WARE mark and model number 1563. Lucia Ware is a range from Boksburg East Potteries in Boksburg, South Africa. Stylised flowers connect through looped moulding around the shoulders, with lighter glaze highlights separating the relief from the darker ground. The short flared neck sits above a tapered lower body. Its decoration is moulded rather than a painted flower arrangement, making the relief and glaze variation the useful points of comparison with other small South African vases. For comparison, the Lucia Ware Light Blue Ceramic Double-Handled Vase Style 2101 and the Hamburger’s Pottery Brown Floral Bud Vase provide related examples of form, decoration or maker within the store.
