Description
Soft milky white opaline glass curves into a rounded shell form, its interior revealing a vivid cobalt blue that creates a tonal contrast of the kind that made mid-century Murano glass the most sought-after decorative glass in the world.
Archimede Seguso (1909-1999) was one of the most celebrated master glassblowers in Murano's history, known for his technical mastery and his ability to produce glass of exceptional refinement and originality. His workshop produced a wide range of forms in opaline, lattimo, and coloured glass, with seashell and organic forms being a recurring theme in mid-century Murano production. Opaline glass, which achieves its soft milky opacity through the addition of tin or arsenic compounds during the melt, was a speciality of the Seguso workshop. This bowl carries a partial Murano label to the base and is attributed to Archimede Seguso on the basis of its form, glaze quality, and period. Condition is very good, with no chips, cracks, or damage noted.
