Description
Latticino glasswork, in which fine threads of white or coloured glass are woven through the body of the piece during blowing, is one of the most technically demanding techniques in the Murano repertoire, and this pair of figures, combining latticino with gold detail, represents the Venetian glass tradition at a high level of accomplishment.
Made in Murano, Venice, in the 1950s, these two figures are worked in the latticino technique with fine white glass threads running through the body, accented with gold detail that catches the light and gives the pieces a characteristic mid-century Murano luxury. Pairs of Murano glass figures from this period in matched condition are increasingly difficult to source, as attrition over the decades has separated many original pairs. The 1950s represent a particularly celebrated period for Murano glass, when the island's glasshouses were producing work of exceptional technical and artistic quality for an international market.
